How to Play
The complete Sip Happens rules for the website, Google Play, and Apple App Store versions.
1. Before you start
Sip Happens is for adults aged 18+ who also meet the legal age requirements in their location. Gather at least two players, enter each name, check the detected player profile, and choose a game mode. Alcohol is never required; any drink or a non-drinking substitute may be used.
2. Choose a mode
Normal uses the mildest cards. Mixed combines different intensity levels. Extreme focuses on bolder mixed and extreme cards and increases intensity faster. Custom lets the group decide which sensitive themes are allowed. Store versions automatically use content prepared for their platform policies.
3. Optional settings
Before play, the group can allow broader player pairings, enable Blackjack or Spin the Bottle minigames, and enable any owned themed packs. Disabled themes, minigames, and packs are excluded from that game.
4. Taking turns
The highlighted player reads the card shown on screen. Names are inserted automatically when a card involves other players. Complete the question or challenge, then tap Done. Every player may refuse or stop any activity at any time; consent always overrides the game.
5. Points
Completing a normal card awards 100 points. Completing the non-refusable in-game penalty card awards 250 points. A skip removes 50 points. Scores remain visible throughout play, and the player with the highest score wins when the group ends the game.
6. Penalties
Tapping Penalty means the current card was declined and opens a replacement penalty card. The replacement has no second refusal button in the game flow. Repeated penalties become more intense, subject to the selected mode, platform content limits, and enabled custom filters. Real-world participation always remains voluntary.
7. Skips
Each player receives three skips per game. A skip costs 5 sips and 50 points, ends the current completion streak, and immediately advances the turn. When all three have been used, that player's skip control is disabled.
8. Daring progression
Each player has a personal intensity progression. Their cards begin milder and become more daring as they take more turns. The chosen progression speed controls how quickly this happens, while Extreme mode always uses the faster progression.
9. Streak rewards
Completing 15 challenges consecutively without taking a penalty or skip earns a reward that lets the active player hand out sips. After the reward is accepted, that completion streak resets and normal play continues.
10. Bomb cards
After 20 cards have been resolved, a surprise Bomb card has a chance to appear after a completed challenge. The active player resolves the Bomb, then the normal turn order continues. Bomb content still respects the build and Custom-mode content limits.
11. Ultimate penalties
An Ultimate Penalty appears at a random interval of 8 to 20 completed rounds. It targets the player with the lowest score at that moment. After it is resolved, the game continues and a new random interval is scheduled.
12. Minigames
If enabled, a random minigame appears every 20 completed rounds. The game chooses an eligible player and avoids repeating the same minigame back-to-back when both are enabled. Finishing the minigame returns everyone to the main game.
13. Cards and themed packs
Owned and enabled themed packs are mixed into the main deck. Every official extra pack contains exactly 50 cards for the active platform. Website, Google Play, and App Store card sets may differ so each build can use appropriate content.
14. Ending and resuming
The game continues until the group chooses End Game and confirms. The highest score is declared the winner. During live play, progress is saved automatically so an eligible signed-in player can continue the saved game later from the home screen.
15. Safety and consent
No card is mandatory. Never pressure another player, and obtain clear, informed, ongoing consent before any interaction. Do not encourage rapid, excessive, competitive, underage, or unsafe drinking. Do not drive or perform hazardous activities after consuming alcohol. Stop immediately if anyone feels uncomfortable or unwell.
